I recently sent an e-mail to the show asking the below question. After hearing another great podcast, and hearing Mike and Mark mention that they love it when things are shared on the forums, I wanted to post my question for everyone to comment on.

Before copying over the question, I just want to say how wonderful these podcasts are and how thankful I am for Mark answering back so quickly.

I do have one question on Team Meetings. Every morning I have a staff meeting with my East coast team for about 15-30 minutes. This is used for me to make announcements, get updates on projects (for myself and the whole team), and answer any questions. I also have this same meeting with my West Coast team in the afternoon. I do not have a weekly team meeting, as I use the daily as a replacement. Have you seen other managers use this approach? How effective do you believe this to be? I get mix comments from my staff. Some believe an inconvenience, while others like the daily meeting very much.

Our sw dev team does a daily standup meeting (30 minutes) focused on the day-by-day scheduling.

The friday meeting is focused on the next week scheduling.

And it works!

why didn't you just call them about it?

Our team (up to 7 people) also does a 15 minute stand up meeting to keep up to speed on daily status. I find them very effective to keeping communications going. Yes it's 1.25 hours a week from each team member, but it's worth it to me and the entire team.

Daily standups, tightly scheduled, can be HIGHLY effective.

We have initiated Rounding in my organization. Very similar to what we are talking about here.

The difference is that it's done with Senior Managment. They perform rounds with staff routinely and talk to staff on a personal level. Mark this is one of Quint Studer's methods "Hardwire for Exellence."

Overall the amount of positive feedback is tremendous. I think this gives the staff a sense that SMG generally cares about the staff and wants to foster communication throughout the whole organization.

I believe this is most beneficial for all organizations. It fosters authenticity, trust, and overall improved productivity in staff.
