Whoa. I just listened to this as M&M suggested this for a first MT meeting. This is great!

In fact, I have an interview tomorrow for a position that is going to require tons of meetings with new groups every week. I can see mentioning this in the interview about how to get people unstressed and focused on setting up the win wins!

In fact, I am going over all the meeting podcasts again to prep for this.

Thanks guys.

And it really, really works.

John, I'd love to hear about your experiences with this. Do you ever get a "pile-up" of people waiting to chat/shake hands with you? How often do people just rush right into the meeting without acknowledging you?
Our meetings typically occur in the school library and it has multiple entry points. I am not really sure where I should place my self. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

RNTT, you are wise to do some reviewing and preparing for your interview. MT has lots of great resources for that too. Good luck!

Hex,

Place yourself where the most people come in. And place your sign there too. If you have a table full of materials, get it over there. Make it obvious, people will wander over even if they come in from another entrance.

Heck, they might even come over just because you're there!

Confusion: the Dec 3, 2005 podcast refers to the exercise where people draw a picture that represents themselves, and present it to the group. This is not the podcast from Sep 25, 2006, about how you should greet each and every person who attends your presentation (Large Meetings - The Greeting).

Which of these is this thread about?

This is about the Dec 3, Members only cast about meeting people for the first time, not the Sept 25 one. I think hexemom mixed up the two.

Hey, so the thread went in a bit of a different direction. We are MT professionals and can deal with it. 8)

Mom, if you are the headline speaker or presenter, try mentioning in the invites that it is preferred that people come in through a specific entrance so that you can meet personally as many of them as possible. It might work. :)

Another point - If they don't come over to you, and you have the time, go over to them. Remember to smile and lift those eyebrows!!!

Thanks for the advice everyone! Putting materials by a particular entrance is a great idea. Oh, and I apologize for the podcast mix up BTW.
By golly, it looks like all that Miss Manners/hostess class will come in handy if I choose to mingle, visit, and raise my eyebrows at meeting participants!
Have an effective day!
