This is the third week I've been in my role as Manager. I'm new to the organization, and have been asked to meet with my boss to provide an update. Can you all give me some feedback on what I am doing to prepare for this?

While he hasn't asked for specifics (other than to know where I'm at in coming up to speed on managing the team, and my own technical contributions), I feel like this is a good opportunity to show that I'm "on top of things".

Consequently, I'd like to enter the meeting with a "Briefing Book" prepared.

In addition to the things that M&M discussed I want to include the following additional/specifics:

- Discuss Accomplishments to date.
- Discuss immediate situation
- Discuss next 30 day plan?
- Discuss portions of the “Situational” talk and the “Expectations” talk (as Watkin's describes)

Anything else?

The Managing During Mergers and Acquisitions podcast has a great description of a briefing book. Prepare that, and you're in good shape.

Thanks John. I had just finished taking notes from that Podcast when I posted this.

I think the other things I mentioned, can fit into the context of that briefing book.

I used the briefing book to update my boss.

I'm sure that I provided more detail that he was interested in; but I'm still getting thumbs up on my performance, and am getting positive comments about the behavior of my team, as of late.

Thanks everyone.

Greg-

Sorry this has taken me so long. I regret my absence.

Sounds like it went well! Remember that he or she who does the work is most likely to be the best person to inform about the work's progress.

Good to be back.
