When I was an individual contributor, one of my biggest pet peeves was never getting introduced to anyone... Mungo just pawn in game of life. :?

The best part was when they'd bring in some pilot off the line to help work on revising a flight manual... he's a total stranger and he walks up to my desk & starts telling me what to do. I suppose someone just pointed him my direction and said "Talk to Terri." More than once I was tempted to say, "And just who the #@% are YOU?"

More than once I DID interrupt the instructions by sticking out my hand with an evil smile and saying, "Nice to meet you, I'm Terri."

So now I try really hard to make sure my folks at least get introduced to people before the instructions start.

That's a good point. I find myself in an ever growing company. Any time I run across someone new, I'm sure to stick out my hand and introduce myself. "Hi, I'm Chuck, the IT Manager." This past week someone recognized me and said "I'm Derek. I just transferred from manufacturing to engineering. I remember you. You were in one of those leadership classes a couple years ago."

Awkward moment... "You've got a great memory, Derek. After 20 years I'm not surprised if we've bumped in to each other somewhere. Welcome to engineering. Let me know if you need anything."

How many faces in your own company do no not recognize?

Chuck,

In a large company you can not be expected to remember ever one. There are over 100 people in my office building and 2000 on our campus. There are about 50 people deal with on a weekly basses. Try keeping all there kids and spouses names memorized also.

I may overkill documentation but most of them i have a contact for in outlook, in the notes field i put information important to them (spouse, pets names, hobbies, kids, sports, etc).

I think I am going to take a tip from your post. I do not make an effort to introduce myself unless they are a coworker I will be working with.
