I saw the post about introductions for a previous conference, and that seems like a good idea. I'll be attending the Chicago conference in March.

I work for the IT department at a university. I was a line manager for about 2 years. Over the last 2 years, we've migrated to a matrix organization model, so now I'm a resource manager, with 13 direct reports. I come from a technical background, so I often still think like a technician, but apparently, I'm good at managing people, my director tells me.

I discovered Manager Tools about a year ago, and spread the word to my coworkers when I can. I'm looking forward to learning how to use the tools more effectively.

I will be there. I can't wait - I feel I am a much better manager having applied the lessons in the podcasts over the last six months; how much more will I improve after practicing this stuff in person with Mark & Mike and 99 other motivated managers?

My intro link is here: http://www.manager-tools.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2524. I won't repeat all of that, but in a nutshell - in software development, many years writing C++, now leading six directs in five sites, still write code 10% of my time, finally understanding what management is about.

I'm charged up for Chicago! I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone and greatly improving myself.

After spending 20 years as a developer, I now manage a group in the quality space and have 7 directs. Despite (or because of) the challenges, it is more fun than I've had in a long time. :D

Hello all,

It's going to be an excellent time, especially since Chicago is finally starting to shed winter. Always takes a while to do it.

Here's my newly minted bio: http://www.manager-tools.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2787

And, to anyone signed up that hasn't listened to at least the basics, make sure to do it before coming to the conference. Two of my coworkers that went last year said they definitely got more out of the conference having listened to all of them first:

mtietel, it sounds like we have a lot in common. I've been a developer and IT SA for 18 years before picking up the IT Manager role in late '05. Fortunately, a friend of mine pointed me at MT shortly thereafter. I can't imagine doing without M&M's guidance.

I look forward to talking to you in Chicago.

I posted a quick bio on another post, but here is a much more concise version.

I am a 23 year old recent college graduate. I work for a direct sale uniform company with large operations out of Chicago. I'm a management trainee, in my second of a four 6-month rotational program (2 years). This rotation I am working in our sales support area trying to figure out how we can better manage/serve some of our market segments.

Currently, I am on a special project in DC. I am helping sort through, tailor, and distribute about 16,000 garments that this client purchased from us for their hotel opening. I have been out here 3 weeks and I get back the day before the conference. Its crazy, but I took a half day today so life is good :)

I do not manage any people and I can't wait to start. I have decent track record so far, so hopefully its not too far off :D

I am looking forward to meeting everyone. Please check out the dinner I am trying to put together. They have done it before previous conferences and it came highly recommended to me by a previous attendee.

I can't wait the see all of you in Chicago, regardless of its at the dinner or the conference.

Best,

Quentin Daniels

I am also in IT - I am the Director of IT for a manufacturing company in Orange County, CA. I came up through the technical ranks as a systems engineer and network administrator, and I have been in a IT management role now for almost 7 years.

I am very excited about the conference and "going deep" with M&M on all the topics I have been listening to on the podcasts and putting into practice.

I will be at the dinner on Monday night and I am looking forward to meeting everyone!

Greetings,

Wanted to give a quick little introduction. Hoping to make it for dinner Monday night but we are trying to wrap up a long overdue project. I am a Controller/CPA of a regional broker dealer. I have been listening to M&M since December 05 and have partially implemented several recommendations. My goals for the training is to walk away with a management strategy/plan (and at least 16 hours of CPE). Not sure I can fully implement everything at once but feel that I can start by doing O3 and feedback better. I am also excited just to get away from it all for a couple of days and have some personal reflection time. See everyone soon.
