I have a question about relocation. It looks like there are more opportunities for IT in the San Antonio area than in Central Illinois. I am meeting with a recruiter from the San Antonio office this week.
I am not sure what queston to ask? I am also not sure what constitutes a good answer to these questions. Cany anyone make suggestions?
Your questions are too broad
I would scour the Podcasts and Forums for anything related to your questions. I would also invest in the MT interview series. It was being offered as a package deal with the new Career Tools program but I don't know if it still is.
Recruiter relationships are covered
in the podcasts on recruiters:

There is information specifically on how to meet with recruiters in person and what you talk about with them.

Relocation to San Antonio from Central Illinois
I live in San Antonio. First thing you need to expect is that the salary offer will probably be less than you expect in Illinois. However, the cost of living is lower here than there. Next there are several web sites that give you comp data on salaries from one area of the country to another. So you ought to check those out. Last week the leader of the Austin (76 miles to the north) announced he was going to try and get his San Antonio counterpart to launch an effort to maket this area as a great IT location. But not just Austin or San Antonio, but the area in general.
The two largest employers in SA are USAA, an insurance company and HEB Food and Drug. Both have large IT departments. The one at USAA seems to be more robust and contiue to expand versus the one at HEB. Rackspace also has moved into town and bought a small mall for its campus.
The military is very strong here and the BRAC has been very good to SA. All medical training in the DOD will be done here. So a lot of jobs in the military sector.
On the flip side, other that Toyota, our economy is primarily service related. The military and tourism are still big. Once the economy turns around, the Toyota plant will go great guns, but its tough right now.
Hope this helps
what i love about MT
This is a perfect example of the great attitude MT's have here - JXO didn't have to give that info out, take time out to type it up but they did - great networking in effect via the MT forums.
Well done guys

Relocation to San Antonio from Central Illinois
On Rackspace .....
I work for Rackspace in the UK, they haven't just rolled into town as far as San Antonio is concerned. We have been there for the best part of a decade and now employ over 2,000 people there. In both the UK and US they are classed as one of the best employers in the country.
The UK has been within the top 50 employers for several years now.
Look us up in San Antonio, it could be the best career decision you have made.

My husband recently became
My husband recently became employed with USAA in the Colorado Springs office. The San Antonio office is affectionately called "The Mother Ship" and that place is frickin' HUGE. (Apparently it's as large as, if not larger than, the Pentagon!) Somehow I doubt that a newbie with less than 6 mos service (out of an employee base of 21,000+) would carry any weight with a referral but if it gets to that point and you don't have any other foot in the door, please let me know.
USAA
I love being a member of USAA . . . but I digress.
go spurs go!
Good advice all around so far. Listen to the casts on recruiting for sure. I'm located in SA and work for a tech retailer. I can tell you from experience the competition is tough. Best of luck to you. It's an easy and affordable city to live in, and we always need more techies! ;)
