I am sure that that is wrong in so many levels that I needed to share it with this crowd.

CNN is carrying a story about a girl who is suing her college for not being able to find a job. The story is here: http://edition.cnn.com/2009/US/08/03/new.york.jobless.graduate/

I'm sure that she would benefit greatly from advice from Manager Tools, and also everyone else coming out of college that thinks that they automatically will get a job just because they are "done" with their studies.

I'm not sure how posting here would help that girl, but hopefully it may help others avoid this kind of thing.

The world is coming to an end. Trust me.  Kids nowadays expect something for nothing.  An education has never guaranteed work, it's up to the each person to work hard to get their own but so many are losing this fundamental and becoming drones wanting everyone to do everything for them.

Bottom line is that this girl needs to grow up and stop whining.

Complaints about "kids nowadays" are intellectually lazy.  Your post displays contempt, along with a poor grasp of social history.

Sure, the young woman may not have a case.  You don't know what promises were made to her, however, and even if she's completely wrong, she's just one person.  That is not the end of the world.

I read the same article from a different site and thought, This person is not realistic. Maybe she studied so hard she has not had time to read and watch the news about the current economy.

In her own words quoted from the story "As Thompson sees it, any reasonable employer would pounce on an applicant with her academic credentials, which include a 2.7 grade-point average"

Then the lady says "Career Advancement shows preferential treatment to students with excellent grades. "They favor more toward students that got a 4.0."

Employers hire college graduates with better grades - now when did they start that! I missed that one.

I know I am not being compassionate here, but it reminds me of the story I read a long time ago. A college student got drunk and decided to moon his classmates from the third floor window. Then he sued the school for falling out of the window. Luckily, he was not seriously hurt.

I think MT bloggers needs to stay away from Darwin Award type stories. Maybe this post belongs with "They said/did what" or Things that make us laugh.

Can't be serious all the time, can we folks.

Dear MT'ers

I came across this blog entry about "Entitlement" and the younger generations in the US.  I have not read the entire blog, though I added it here for those that are interested and to see if we agree or disagree with the author. I have no idea who this guy is.

Thanks for sharing JHB, but I don't buy it!

When I was 20 and just getting into the business world, I knew managers in their 40s that said the same thing about the youth of the day.  When I was 30 and was firmly entrenched in middle management, I heard the entitlement comment about the youth at that time.  Now I'm in my 40s and I still hear about this entitlement in youth as if it's new..

When I ask my father he says it was an issue 40 years ago, and I recall my grandfather complaining about it too.  This leads me to believe entitlement is the label we put on behavior we, ourselves, had yesterday.

Too bad the author didn't mention the feedback model as a way of correcting the behavior in our own children.
