I find it funny how people try and strive so hard to move up the corporate ladder in a company. Sometimes I wonder why bother at all? Why not take your skills and start your own business of some type.

I know when I had my own business with my ex husband years ago, I was pretty happy with it all.

Tribble, not all humans have the same drivers. There are quite some differences between a corporate career and starting your own business.

There are substantial benefits to going it alone in a small business, but also many risks.  e.g. customers who refuse to pay, high first year failure rate.

Also, not everyone has the variety of skills necessary to run their own business, or the entrepreneurial / adventurous spirit to make it happen.

Corporate careers have their share of frustrations, but they also offer a steady paycheque, relative stability and predictable schedule.  These are very beneficial to persons with families and / or children (especially young kids).

Tribble,

It's all corporate these days. We have to be professional with our customers, suppliers, and vendors. They are corporations, or small businesses too. So one is never really the boss, and you are going to have to deal with them.
