OVe rthe last couple of years I've had pretty successful mentoring relationship with one of my firms senior execs. I followed the M's advice on choosing a mentor, making the approach, running the meetings, choosing the areas for discussion and I'd have to say that it was well worth it.
However, now, after two years I want to wind up the relationship. When I raised it with my mentor I detected a genuine look of disappointment and I think his feelings may have even been a bit dented. He suggested that we could keep going or we could wind it up here. The tone was definitely of the "let's keep going" variety.
I'm a High C, High S, so said I'd get back to him on what to do next.
I still wish to wind up the relationship, but now don't really know how. We live in separate cities so I think a thank you note is probably the best approach.
