I was contacted a couple of weeks ago about a job opportunity from a local recruiting company.  At first it sounded like a good opportunity, but yesterday after my initial interview I find myself no longer interested in the position.

First the position would be step back in my career.  I would essentially be doing the same position I was in 4 years ago and it would be with a much smaller company.

I've been asked to comeback for a second interview, but I don't want to waste anyone's time when I'm 90% sure this is not the position for me.

I'm looking for some advice on the best way to handle turning down a second interview.  I do not want to burn the recruiter, as I would like to continue working with them in the future.  I also do not want upset the person that interviewed me, as I'm sure we will cross paths again.  Any thoughts?

Communicate, communicate, communicate.  You don't have to give them a long drawn out explanation.   A simple "Hi Bob, thanks for the opportunity.  My circumstances have changed and it is not prudent for me to pursue this at this time.  Thanks and hope to talk to you soon."

You can't control how they react.  Just be professional.
