How do you convince people that you are flexible enough to change careers?

I have 20 years in IT for government and have some pretty impressive accomplishments - the recruiters tell me.

I would like to tranjsition to health care but with my advanced experience, companies sometimes wonder if I can do the job.  It isn't that hard to me to learn a new field; I have been doing it all my life.

Any suggestions on how to frame myself so people can see that I am versatile?

The biggest question is always what skills you have that transfer and why you are a better candidate than people who are already in that industry.

It helps when you are being sought after for your experfise in the industry you are transitioning out of. In my case, I transferred from architecture to a software company that makes software for architects.

If you want to be in the IT department of a heath care company, then you can transfer the IT skills. If you want to be a doctor, that might be pushing it.

You might also want to catch typos like "tranjsition" :-)

Search the Podcasts for "How to transfer between states or industries" and I think you'll find some good advice there. I wish I'd had that advice back when I quit my job in Boston and moved to San Francisco to start fresh.
