Forums

I am new to the forum and podcasts, as I stumbled upon doing a google search for career help about two weeks ago.  I was laid off from middle management, female, in a "Man's World" ( but its not, sales is sales...and I am in the Natural / Organic Industry, so there are  a lot of us women now in Consumer Goods Middle Management to Top level ), but have never really been unemployed before and initially after I was laid off, I dove in, but I chose to take the next/last four months off to focus on family- my career was fast tracked...and I cannot wait to return),  but I did not realize just how competitive it was/is.  Even just four month out of the loop and now re entering, I find the podcasts so helpful in staying focused.  I download and take with everywhere, on my iPad, on my nano, on my mac while "playing LinkedIn"--just an invaluable tool.  I am seriously sitting on the fence and I am thinking I should get the interview series.  The resumes casts, the networking casts, the common sense approach to everything is seamless.  I have listened to a few of the Manager's tools casts as well, but not as relevant for me, today.  I need a new Career path.  I now have a 1-page resume, a separate career document, and I am going through my contacts and reconnecting, via email and LinkedIn.  There is a huge industry trade show in 3 weeks, and I will be there, walking it, and hopefully in a good place to network.  I am using all the good techniques you mention, and again, most already I did/do, but really reinforcing the positive, and making notes to change all to this style and way of doing things,...always.  And, now all I need are a few interviews and finding where the jobs are, too.  Looking for work...is work.  A thousand thank you's.

 Welcome to Manager Tools!

In my opinion, the interview series is the best money you can spend if you're looking for a new job.  Best of luck with your search!

Hi Amy,

Welcome to Manager-Tools and the forums.

Thanks for sharing your story - you'll be surprised how many very similar stories there are here ...

I know it's a tough decision to spend money (especially when you're out of work) but I would echo pmoriarty's words highly recommend you get the interviewing series. Or you might consider the career tools premium content because the interviewing series is thrown in free as a special deal until Feb 29th! (http://www.manager-tools.com/career-tools-premium-content)

Ok, so not on the fence.  Ordered.  But on my iPad and it won't buffer and load right....grrr.  So, will listen to later and dload from my Mac into my nano, keep searching, keep networking and will be bringing my "A" game with me everywhere I go.  I have enough money to last 90 more days post unemployment, so...here's to hard work, faith and perserverance.  Thanks again for the warm welcome.

Hi Amy,

I'm new too, just signed up today.  Like you, I stumbled upon the podcast (Manager Tools) and later on the Career Tools and I am transformed!!  WhaLa!!!  Wish I would have thought about searching 2 years ago, oh well - like Mike says, nothing makes us stronger than a huge fall we can learn from.  I'm on my last leg at my company, feels like my manager is trying to push me out and as someone who comes from praise and appreciation of past managers, it's been a more than challenging obstacle to accept and overcome.  Career Tools has made me a better professional, something I was striving to become and now the improvement feels effortless.

We have these moments to teach us and to learn from, the knowledge gained is something no one will ever take from us and the next great thing is just around the corner : )

Hang in there, corporate America is a cruel, cruel place.  We shall SURVIVE!!

Take Care,

Torri
