I have been working for current org for 5.5 years...moved from channel sales to VP of Sales to Principal....during that time our company has drastically reduced in size, our key source of revenue dropped significantly and we have taken a completely different approach as a much more lean org with different areas of focus as a business....trying to keep all of my career results in order and up to date....and not sure how to best describe my 2012 performance given that actual revenue went in a different direction.

Here is current description:

VICE PRESIDENT OF SALES & PRINCIPAL

• Increased national sales by 53% in 2011.

• Increased national sales by 21% in 2010.

• Managed social media for entire company since 2008.

• Developed sales plans and strategies for growing revenues and exceeding the company’s sales goals.

• Managed nationwide sales force with focus on UBI/telematics/fleet, digital signage, TEM/MDM, specialized procurement/lifecycle management and custom-engineered M2M solutions.

▲▲▲Simultaneously managed regional sales channel for 18 months and grew region 46% from 2009 to 2010.

CHANNEL SALES MANAGER

▲▲▲Promoted to Vice President of Sales in October 2009.

• Secured 2nd largest customer in company history for recurring core services.

"Start Date to End Date": VP of Sales & Principal, Channel Sales Manager, "Company Name": "City, State" - Managed nationwide sales force with focus on UBI/telematics/fleet, digital signage, TEM/MDM, specialized procurement/lifecycle management and custom-engineered M2M solutions. Developed sales plans and strategies for growing revenues and exceeding the company’s sales goals. Managed social media for entire company since 2008.

  • Increased national sales by 53% as VP of Sales & Principal in 2011.
  • Increased national sales by 21% as VP of Sales & Principal in 2010.
  • Grew sales region 46% from 2009 to 2010 as VP of Sales & Principal from 2009 to 2010.
  • Promoted to Vice President of Sales in October 2009.
  • Increased sale results by 49% as Channel Sales Manager from 2008 to 2009.

The title VP of Sales & Principal sounds odd to me. But that is probably just because I am not familiar with your industry. The bullet point that starts with "Grew sales region..." seems a bit weak to me since it doesn't state what the results were from growing the region. You might want to change it or remove it. But hopefully this will work as a starting point.

Hope this helps.

Thanks....VP of Sales is my title and I am also one of the owners....is there a better way to show that?  Also, I appreciate the rewrite....looks like you combined them into one role....seems to be a better approach and keeps things simple...My last concern is since our company revenues went south in 2012 and there was a pattern of growth prior to that how would I show what I did in 2012?  In a normal sales rep role where company focus stayed the same yet a rep didnt perform would be easy....the rep wasnt good and was most likely let go.....my situation is one that (as an owner of the company) I am part of the direction change, organizational changes and RE-focus (as a much leaner company) on striving and surviving.  Does that make sense?

One last thing....my first year with the company as a channel sales manager, I started a new region and grew it from $0 to just over $650,000 in a year..Describe it just that way or stick a crazy high percentage on it?

$0 to just over $650,000 in a year - nice one!

I guess that's technically an growth of infinite percentage, so perhaps showing it by dollar value is better in this case.

Thanks. What about my other concern above?

Any other advice?

Any other feedback?  I am trying to explain our shift in focus in 2012...if I followed suit from 2010 and 2011 it would show a decline in performance...that's technically accurate but due to the nature of our business our entire model changed.  How would you describe it?  Let me know if you need more clarification.

I actually came up with "Co-developed and implemented sales strategy for "abc company (my company)" SaaS and xyx platforms 2012-present.

Does that make sense as the most recent bullet with current role?

Don't use a bullet for 2012. If you're asked in an interview, you can say that the results aren't relevant or representative due to the change in strategy, and then continue with a description of the strategy.

And, a promotion isn't an accomplishment. You need to have two roles here, which will show that you were promoted.

Thanks, Wendii....Just felt strange highlighting results each year and then NOT in 2012....Also, since I was promoted to VP of Sales yet still did two roles for almost 2 years how would that get laid out?

Any last bits of advice here?  I am still hung up on the 2012 piece as well as my last comment about dual roles..thanks!
