I'm looking for tips on how to excel when you're the one person virtually located on a team.

We have a 12-person team that is being completely replaced. I'm in the US and the rest of the team is being hired and will be in India. I have about 30 years experience with the company and the rest of the team will be new.

I'm feeling nervous about how to build a relationship with my boss-to-be and how to excel in his eyes. I assume that I'll deliver all of my tasks, and I see lots of potential improvements to be made. But between time zones that have maybe an hour of overlap at around 5:30 AM and the rest of the team that is together all of the time and also has constant visibility and access to the Lead, what tips do you have to keep from being the overlooked team member when it's time for an annual performance ranking.

Is the manager of the team to be located in India as well, and new to your company?

I'll assume that as you said that "the rest of the team that is together all of the time and also has constant visibility and access to the Lead"  that they are co-located with each other.

A few ways would be to book a call every day with the boss and a weekly O3 as well. Daily email updates should be considered too, depending on his communication style.

One cautionary piece of advice; dust off and update your resume. The situation of moving an entire team (including the leader) offshore, added to you having a low remote overlap time suggests you might be at risk.

Thank you for the reply.

yes, the manager will also be in India. The current team is offshore in another country and is being eliminated. I'll plan on the weekly O3 and some form of daily communication -- phone if our schedules permit it.
