Hi everyone.

My co-worker and I are individual contributors who helped run our group’s summer intern program last year, where we wrangled about 7 college-age interns.  From the feedback we received, the program was a success.  This year, we are now tasked with managing the interns for the entire department, which will mean about 35 interns.

We did build a framework off of what worked last year, and are unsure how well things will scale with the greater number of interns, as well as the greater distance between us and them on a day to day basis.  I have never had an internship myself, however I have heard many horror stories and the apocryphal story where the interns are just glorified coffee gophers.  There are a lot of things that my employer has to offer, and I want to provide a tapas-like experience where they can get a feel of what is out there.  My thought is this way they can make better informed ideas about what they want to do after graduation.

I built in some basic MT ideas into the framework and would like to continue integrating MT ideas, but we only have the interns for 12 weeks total, which isn't very long in the grand scheme of things.

Does anyone have any ideas about how to successfully run an intern program where the interns learn something beyond people's coffee orders?
