Argh!  For the life of me, I can't find my notes and I can't remember what the precise "seven words" were for closing / asking for the job because of A, B and C.  Help?!

I know I could approximate the gist of the message but I tend to be verbose anyway and I'd really like to nail this interview on Fri at 2pm Eastern!  LOL  Thanks for any insight - here or PM is fine.

I think you should make me an offer.  And here is why... etc

If you want, message me and I will float u the notes

"Should" is a word avoided by Mark and Mike in the pod casts.

Instead the recommended wording starts out...

"I want an offer and ...."

The topic is covered in The Interviewing Series.

Best of good fortune to you ash.

Great point on should.  We must have different show notes though.  In the How to Close podcast alone, the word should is used at least 10 times.

Can you please show me where M&M say to avoid using the word should?  Much appreciated.

*RNTT1, you are right, my mistake. I may be wrongly attributing an opinion to the MT podcasts. Thank you.

I'll PM or email you if I come up with more information from the casts on this topic.

TLHAUSMANN - I've also noticed that M&M avoid using the word "should".  What strikes me though, is that they often replace it with the word "ought" with the suggestion that they have different meanings.  I don't really understand this because "should" and "ought" mean the same thing!

Mike or Mark - can you comment on this?

I want an offer and here's why....

I wrote down the seven words and had them in front of me during the phone interview process.  At the end, I went "off-script" and went with my gut-style which was eerily similar to Ken's suggestion of "I want" so hopefully I'll be in the running.

I was apparently the last candidate in the door and I get the distinct impression I was "forced" onto him.  I also have a feeling that I would have had to have been a super-duper phenomenal rock star to land the position because I have to believe that by this point, he's already made up his mind & settled on someone he interviewed earlier in the process.  That said though, he said and I do believe there is a business case to support another position (total of 3 managers, not just the 2 currently being filled) so I believe I have a strong shot at landing the third-not-yet-posted-or-approved position.

Nevertheless, I had great fun in the interview.  It felt like we were sharing the same brain in terms of management philosophy and leadership styles and that was reassuring.  His east-coast accent was endearing and I could totally enjoy working for him at some point so I'm keeping positive vibes in the air.  Thanks - yet again - for all the support ... YOU guys are the super-duper phenomenal rock stars!

No Ash, you are the rock stariest!  Hope you hear good news soon.  Chin up, things can slow up over the holidays so don't read into things that might not be there.
