BLUF: Is it OK to update or modify my resume after submitting to a recruiter and an interview is scheduled?
I have a job where I am a well paid manager in a technical role at a market leading electronics Industry Company. A recruiter contacted me based on my profile on Linked-In. The recruiter told me my experience at previous jobs could be a good fit for a company that is looking for an engineering team leader/manager. After a telephone conversation with the recruiter, I was asked to send in my resume for review.
“Your Resume Stinks” cast immediately came to mind, so when I got home that night, I rewrote my resume based on what I could recall from the cast. Fortunately, I was able to recall several accomplishments throughout my career and added them to the resume as well as refined the whole thing down to a single page. At the time, I thought it looked good, so I sent it off to the recruiter.
The recruiter has since talked to the actual company, and the key people doing the hiring want to interview me in person. The interview is scheduled in the beginning of March. The recruiter is highly optimistic that I am a top candidate for the position.
I have now listened to a few more interviewing casts to prepare, and I realize that my accomplishment bullets are not properly cherry picked for this company, and in several cases take up more than one line. (Even with .5 margins, 10pt Arial font, no bullet indent – ala sample resume from manager tools)
So now I am wondering if I should go ahead and adjust my resume and resubmit prior to the interview, or just go with what I have. I know if I adjust, the new resume will be substantially better than the one already in play, which I think could make improvements to the actual interview.
Thoughts / suggestions?
