Just wanted to drop my experience into the collective body of knowledge.

After getting the interview for an internal promotion and nailing it (thanks, M&M!), followed by an offer, I was faced with the next hurdle: how to break the news.

Luckily, Manager Tools provides the answer: the 3-parter on "How To Resign". I plugged in the Ipod and downloaded the 'casts, and listened on the way to work.

I scheduled a meeting with the boss, and started with a simple "I'm resigning". After describing where I was going in the company, I walked him through my prepared transition package, started with my succession recommendations (with rationale backing up the recommendation), and including interim reviews on all of my people and a current project status document.

After a slight pause, the boss made my day by stating "You're the most well-prepared I've ever seen anyone that is resigning." :D

Now I need to break out the "Jump-Starting Your Internal Customer Relations" series and get to work.
