 Is is appropriate to begin a cover letter with just the FIRST name of the hiring manager?

I am applying for a position at a non-profit for which I have been a volunteer for 16 years and worked at for 5 years (about 10 years ago). I am currently serving as a consultant to the org.

I have worked with, for, and been friends with the hiring manager for the past 8 years. It feels silly to address her as Mrs. X. Is it appropriate to begin with "Dear Name?"

 Hi, I would definitely put the full name of the person. I think it is more professional and you may not know whose eyes will see the cover letter and to anyone else, just the first name, would seem unprofessional.
