I'm working through all the leaves of the Project Management tree in the Map of the Universe. Great advice, as always!

I appreciate the advice about sticking with an effective software tool and not continually jumping onto newer, shinier, tools.

However, I actually have no software tool at all currently.

Would you share what you are using? And is there a particular tool that most supports the project management behaviors that the podcasts recommend?

Might as well try to pick the best tool for the job, since I have the luxury of a fresh pick, you know?

Thanks!

Depending on where you are what you need to accomplish, I have found that excel is very versatile and is a perfect first run tool.
You can expand it and include hyperlinks if it is something that you want to send out to the team for updates.
This way, when you combine their inputs with yours, it is easy to do and you have the original so you can just run a compare to see what changes they have made.
Not the best, just the easiest I have found for those just starting out.

Thank you for the recommendation. I have used Excel in that fashion before, as well as MS Project. I'm hoping the more modern tools will offer a more effective experience than both of those packages. :-)

There is an online Project Professional type service that I've used and works very well - www.smartsheet.com. With this service, you can plan out you project just like Microsoft Project Professional but also share it with others in the "View Only" or "Edit" mode. This is a paid solution but I think they give you a free 30-day trail.

For the iPad, I've also used "Beesy" project management. Probably the best tool for the IOS that allows you to break a project down to many levels. They also have an on-line service but not really used it yet.

Excel is also great the the cheaper solution.

Good Luck!
