Happy Holidays everyone,

So I'm on vacation for two weeks which leads to a lot of thinking time vs. my usual crazy focus at work.

All of this unstructured time has led me to write up a  post on discipline. Check it out and share what you do to keep things on track. I for one find it an interesting topic and may be a great MT cast at some point, especially for the new managers out there.

You definitely need some great form of discipline when you are drinking from the proverbial fire hose!

When I read the title of your post, I thought this was going to be about providing negative feedback of some sort.

I enjoyed your thoughts.  Discipline is one of the keys to success and is difficult to maintain.  One approach is to find the right motivator.  Technology and gadgets often motivate me, but those are generally short term for me.  Money is a motivator for some.

Mike and Mark appear to be motivated by seeing other people's success.  Which brings up another thought...

"What gets measured gets done" is often mentioned on MT casts.  Being watched definitely gets results.  Asking someone (even your boss) to watch for a specific result or to help measure might be an interesting solution.  I had a direct request that I monitor a specific means of communication frequency for results and his performance improved.

It occurs to me that Mike and Mark are constantly asking to be measured (feedback on their casts).

(Just some random thoughts.)

I like the thoughts. measurement / feedback is definitely a motivator for increased discipline to complete what ever task is at hand.

Perhaps that's why some of hardest areas to be disciplined in are those that are internally measured?
