I know I need a notebook on me at all times. I've experimented with just keeping index cards on me. I've experimented with several diferent types of notebooks and note keeping systems. I've found that the size and type notebook I like best is the Moleskine Cahier or Field Notes types. The system I like for note keeping is Bullet Journal. My questions are now to follow. I work in retail and am never at a desk, so larger notebooks don't work. Other note keeping systems I just can't keep up with. Now, my questions are to follow.

First, do you guys think that the "Bullet Journal" method can be used effectively in a pocket notebook? If not, do you have any suggestions on how I can more conveniently carry around a larger notebook. If so, do you think the Cahier or Field Note type notebooks (essentially cardboard covers, because I can carry them more comfortably) are professional looking enough, or should I switch to maybe a hardback Moleskine pocket notebook or similar?

I just hate having more than one book and would rather fill one up faster that transfer everything. But I also now understand the importance of appearance.

Any advice or opinion welcome. Thanks.

There are a hundred different ways this conversation could go, but I'll give you one data point - I use a Field Notes notebook every day, at a "white shoe" law firm. I don't /plan/ to take that notebook in to a meeting with senior folks - I'll use a letter-size folio for that - but it happens. But I don't worry about it when it happens, because I have a cover on it. I use the "Gentleman's Cover" from the Field Notes site; there are other options there, options on Etsy, etc. That one works for me, and sits just fine in a suit coat pocket. Fair disclosure - I /would/ look a little cock-eyed at someone working in the office with an uncovered Field Notes notebook in some of their more "eclectic" designs. But you'd never be able to tell which particular book I had in my cover.

That does sound like something I've considered. (There's a gentleman I found online that makes leather covers for that size notebook for under $30.) I don't have a jacket pocket though. This would have to go in, and stay in, pants pocket. I've also toyed with the idea of using index cards in a leather or leather-like carry case. Just not sure how professional that would be. I just don't want to have to do double work and I don't like carrying the moleskine everywhere...

Just to reiterate--I'm an Assistant Store Manager in a retail environment. I'm rarely at a desk and even less often in meetings. What notebook for everyday use would be most recommended? I guess that's really the question. Thanks in advance.
