Dear fellow forum members,

The Sr. VP of my department has offered to provide me access to an executive coach as part of my professional development. I am excited about the opportunity and want to make the most of it. However, having had no experience with these creatures, I don't know what to expect. I am assuming that I should come to the first meeting with goals for my development (similar to Mark & Mike's recommendations in the Mentor podcast), but beyond that I'm drawing a blank. Any pointers on how to prepare or what to expect would be much appreciated.

it's a great opportunity.
I had the same one one year ago. I was in your position, trying to figure out 'the future' and 'be prepared' (kinf of 'manager tools' addiction :) ).
And ... just let your coach drive at the beginning: in my opinion it's not a 'standard' training.
Of course he will ask and I'm sure there are 'topics' you want to be covered and .... you'll have a lot of surprises.

I certainly wouldn't want to miss the opportunity to ask your boss what he or she would like to see you focus on. Knowing the perceived gap in your executive talents would be useful.

Although, perhaps you're one of those rare folks that know exactly what their boss is thinking ... ;-)
