Hello All,
Is it acceptable to give positive feedback to a group of directs at once, or should it be given on a one on one basis?
I have a group of 3 directs who really pulled together as a team to meet a very tight deadline (with a little pushing on my part stressing the importance of the deadline). I want to give them a much deserved well done, keep up the good work feedback that has been missing in the department. Is the message better individually or as a group?
Thanks,
BBundy
Group Feedback
I would give them all private feedback on a job well done as well as group recognition in your next staff meeting.
Group Feedback
It's hard to identify individual behaviors in a group.
Telling the group they did good is praise, and it's a good thing. Feedback is about specific behaviors ("when you raise issues early in a project...") which are rarely going to apply to every single member of team. (OK, maybe "when you all share information and collaborate...")

Group Feedback
I agree with John. Praise the group at the weekly meeting. It's important, and it's good.
Then, in the O3, give feedback to the individual contributors. They did good too, and they need to know what they did that worked so they can replicate it. And they need to know what didn't work so they can adjust. Wait a minute, that's just regurgitating the feedback model...
Group Feedback
count me in as agreeing.
Give the team credit for what the team did as a group, probably in the weekly staff meeting. Point out individual contributions in the one-on-ones.
Group Feedback
Congratulations to you as well for your team meeting the deadline!
I agree with Paul, John and Will (of course... they are brilliant).
Praise has value. Praise them. Tell them they did a great job!
Then, give them feedback about the behavior that got them there, individually.
Group Feedback
Yep. See above.
