Hi there,

First of all. I am so lucky I found Manager Tools and so much useful guidance. This helpded me a lot to understand my personal situation. I have started the Trinity recently.

I am managing a few teams with 5 directs in a small company (under 200 employes). My start was as a sales guy and I switched over to more technical stuff (IT). On that way I was promoted two or three times. First to lead one team, later two ... I can deliver my best performance, if its a project with new technologie or on very short timeframe. If someone says "It is not possible" it is my personal challenge to make it working. My insights profile is red (with little blue aspects) and in DISC High D (developer). I started 3Os and I am going to change my feedback to the MT Modell.

With the end of last year my boss offered me a new promotion (without talking about details like money). He wants to put me in a position as a sort of managing director.

It was strange. The first time in about 15 years I had doubt if I could handle a challenge. I was scared to fail and maybe risk to loose more than my job. I tried to explain this to him and we had some discussion about that. After this discussions I accepted the offer and was told, that we only need to do some offical stuff. Now I am waiting since then and nothing had happend. I asked two or three times. Nothing happend. My new position was already announced in the company. So everybody inside thinks, that I have this position. I did not change my title or signatures. I am acting more carefully since the promotion offer.

I love to work for the company and I owe them so much, since they supported me in troubled - private - times.

I have no idea how to handle this situation. Should I stay and fight or prepare for a new job? This is driving me mad.

Regards

Hello Box23,

For clarification, is your question about the requirements and skills of the new vs. current position or how to handle a new role that was announced that has not been completed officially with title/money?

Wow, that's a little strange. Why not just start acting in the position you have? If they gave it to you, you want to further your career, and everyone thinks you have the job, what's the harm? If your manager approaches you, you can explain what has happened to date. Give yourself 90 days into the position and accomplish some goals then go back and discuss compensation.

I'm a high D as well (and Red with a bit of Green). I am not very good with ambiguity. In times of uncertainty, sometimes it's best to walk around like you own the place getting things done (tongue in cheek). Even if there is a change in plans, you've been noticed and likely future opportunities may come your way if this doesn't work out. If your goals are in line with the company and you makes things better it will be good for everyone especially if you are using manager tools with your directs.

My two cents. Good luck and let us know how it works out.

Hello Jskehan,

FYI: I started this discussion in the feeling that I need to hide something. Thats why I used another pseudonym. I think now it was childish. So I will go on with the correct account. Sorry for bothering.

Thank you for taking time. I feel that I would be able to learn skills of the new role. MT will help me with that. I will make lots of errors - but thats normal.

The other thing is bothering me since a couple of month. Am I promoted or not? Do I have the right to act outside my teams, if something is going wrong? Right now I don't care about money or title. I just want to do my job and getting better with that.

Regards

Your two cents helped me a lot. I now know what to do in the next steps. I will try it for 90 days and stress my new position.

Kind Regards

Ask your boss to clarify. Living with this ambiguity seems like its taking of much of a toll on you.
