Basic jist of it is this guy wrote a program to automate his work. His work was very routine, got paid a bonus on output. Hadn't told his superiors what he was doing. So he sat around twiddling his thumbs while the program did the work others had to do manually.

Here's the interesting bit: he got fired when management found out, but was later taken back on and negotiated a deal whereby the company instituted this money-saving program, in exchange for giving him a software development position, and an agreement that the staff now made redundant would be moved into new roles.
