Hi,

I'd like to gather some input whether to accept a job interview or to decline it politely.

I have had no plans to move to another company despite opposing most of our recent cut backs (e.g. travel expenses, salary freeze). Being with my current company for 21 month, I have been approached by and invited to interview for an offering (same level) at a high profile competitor.

I can not judge the differences between both companies without interviewing. And I am wondering whether to interview for a same level position without strong desire to leave. Since it is probable that I might end up declining an potential offer (I know, I do not have it yet), is it wise to eat up their time and money and burn me for future interviews?

Thanks for you opinion,

This cast makes the case for going on external interviews:

You should go on the interview.

I don't think  there's such a thing as a reason not to interview with a company. You never know who you could meet, what the position is, or how it might benefit you until you go on that interview.

I was just offered (and accepted) a position that I never dreamed that I could get when I went on the first interview.
