kklogic: I challenge one of you to start a job hunt accountablity thread within the next 24 hours. If it were me, I think I'd start with people posting their circumstances (a little history) and listing their goals. Then, people have to post their progress or action they've taken to get to their goal.
******************************************************
OK Kat, I'll step up to the challenge.

ABOUT ME:

I am a senior Marketing Executive with over 12 years of B2B and B2C experience in sectors including travel and hospitality, telecomm, retail and insurance. I have been recognized as an industry expert in loyalty marketing and CRM. May accomplishments can be grouped into four roles:

As a senior Client Relationship Leader:
•Managed a major account’s freestanding sales and delivery team with successful results: beat 2007 growth goal by 10%, increased Client Satisfaction scores by 20%, and increased employee engagement scores by 15%.
•Managed P&L to be the most profitable large account on agency’s roster.

As a hands-on Marketing Strategist:
•Eliminated $250K in B2B sales costs and increased overall marketing results by 20%.
•Doubled ROI on acquisition marketing campaigns through improved segmentation.
•Featured speaker on loyalty marketing at 2007 FTMA and 2007 DMA conferences.
•Led Six Sigma innovation projects to reduce production errors by 80%.

As a successful Business Developer:
•Generated $3MM in new revenues through business development efforts with British Airways, Northwest Airlines, Hallmark, State Farm Insurance, SYSCO, and Schering-Plough.
•Started a new line of business which generated over $2.5MM in annual revenues, maintaining a margin in excess of 30%.

As an effective Team Builder:
•Managed all levels of creative, analytic, account, production, IT, traffic and contact center staff, with the result of increasing employee engagement scores by 15%.
•Led matrixed multinational consulting teams to deliver strategic CRM projects billing more than $250K in new revenues.
•Built a network of loyal and effective partner suppliers to develop and deliver employee training programs.

I have produced measurable results by mobilizing teams, leading clients, driving work, and growing the business.

WHY I’M IN TRANSITION:

After 12 years of accomplishment and increasing responsibility with my agency, I became unexpectedly unemployed at yearend. My company was faced with substantial financial losses, and in an effort to cut costs, it eliminated approximately 5% of the workforce – more than 100 positions – one of which was mine. The company has implemented two further rounds of reductions since then.

WHAT I’M LOOKING FOR:

On the Agency side, a role where I can produce financial results using my Client Relationship and Business Development skills (e.g., Group Account Director, VP/Account Director, Management Supervisor, Director of Client Services)

On the Client side, a role where I can use my experience as a hands-on Marketing Strategist and Team Builder to drive higher ROI on the marketing spend (e.g., VP Relationship Marketing or Loyalty Marketing, Sr. Director Marketing, CRM)

WHAT I’VE DONE MOST RECENTLY:

On April 1st I began my “CAMPAIGN TO 500”: tracking every proactive action with a goal of reaching 500. Examples of these actions include: proactive networking contacts, applying for posted jobs, interviews and interview follow-up activities, proactive outreach to recruiters, sending Direct Mail to targeted companies. I reached 500 on July 2nd. Results, measured by interviews: 15 screening interviews with HR or full interviews with hiring manager, at 11 companies.

WHAT I PLEDGE TO DO NEXT WEEK (draft – will lock this down by Sunday evening):
Folllow up on opportunities for which I’m actively interviewing.

Proactive Follow up calls to at least 10 employers to who I’ve applied for specific jobs (I don’t have names or numbers; these may only be calls into HR; I’ll let you know).

Relationship “Refresh” calls to five recruiters (remind them I’m still out here and can bring value to their clients)

Apply online to all appropriate jobs I find (average 10/wk).[/list:u]

Perhaps some of you saw the article this week about people keeping diaries about their weight loss and fitness goals.

http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/weightloss/2008-07-08-food-diaries_N...

The study showed that people who dedicated themselves to keeping the logs on average lost 2x...yes, you read that correctly, two times as much weight as those who did not.

I strongly suspect that people who do the same in their job search will also show a marked improvement in their results.

Here's my report out:

I went 2-for-4: followed up on active interviews; applied to 11 jobs found during the week. I did not make my goals on the proactive or refresh calls. But it's progress, and I'll continue this week.

One observation: if you're interviewing "the M-T way" there's a lot of WORK you might not have considered allowing time for when you're setting your goals.

What this meant for me last week was the work that comes between the 2nd and 3rd interviews. And it's a LOT more than the handwritten thank you note:
Preparing my approach for the next interview by reviewing my notes and summarizing what I heard from the hiring manager about the position. Then, reviewing my resume for accomplishments that are targeted exactly to the needs of the position as I understand it (it's like preparing a whole new resume for the next interview!).

Prepping my references in case they get the call. Sending each of them an outline of the job (using my summary from the item above), a sketch of the hiring manager and her background, and then suggestions for experiences they have with me that feed directly into the job requirements.[/list:u]
That takes time! But this is a competition - and I want to be sure that I'm doing everything I can to beat out anyone else who's in contention.
