I would suggest changing the name of the Member Podcast to something distinct from the Manager Tools normal podcast. It makes it easier to pick the right one to listen to. :)

Not that important, but it would make things a bit easier.

And in the spirit of the management theme, I will not only identify the problem; I will also present two possible solutions.

Solution 1: Change the name to: ReallyBadMTNameThatIsPresentedFirstToHelpYouRecoginizeThatTheSecondOptionIsBetter

Solution 2: Change the name to: Manager Tools Member Cast

Thanks

Yes, in itunes, they both are different feeds, but in my ipod, they appear as 1 podcast.

Guys, help me out here a bit ... I'm not sure what you're asking for (or experiencing). Currently, the Member-only podcasts are named "MT-Member.....", the normal weekly podcast are named "MT-2006.....". The "Member" being the key indicator on the member podcasts.

Ok, you both are smart, so I *know* I'm missing something ... but for the life of me, I can't figure it out. I'm certainly game for making it easier to distinguish between the two.

In iTunes, both show up as Manager Tools. I believe this is being set in the pcast file, but I a not sure. I think this is the offending XML:
[code:1]

Manager Tools [/code:1]

I think this is the same for both feeds. The above was taken from http://www.manager-tools.com/podcasts/feed/rss2.

David,

Thanks ... I think I get it. The issue is not with the title of the individual shows, but rather the title of the Podcast feed/channel itself. That makes sense.

You're right, the title of both "channels" are identical ... something set by WordPress (the feeds are simply different "categories" with Wordpress and there isn't a native choice within Wordpress to change this). The change will require some coding changes to the WordPress code itself. I'll take a look and see how hard it would be.

Thanks for clarifying!

Mike,

No problem. Thanks for actually taking the time to look into it.

Since I am also a word press user, though not a podcaster, I will see if I can figure it out as well.

Are you using a plug in to generate the podcasts?

Thanks

David,

No, I'm using a hacked-up version of wp-rss2.php (primarily a hack to insert iTunes tags where appropriate). Note that I'm also still on WP1.5 (at least until we get the site redesign done -- which, by the way, another listener has graciously volunteered to help us with).

Finding out where to make the mod took about 2 seconds, and the "fix" took another 2 seconds to figure out ... except it doesn't work and breaks the feed entirely! It's probably the most basic piece of code I've written in my entire life, but is absolutely broken. Ugh! Perhaps it has something to do with 1.5 hours of sleep last night.

I'll figure it out ... eventually. :-)

Ok, I actually did figure it out (after waking up enough to think about checking the server error log) ... should be working now. The members-only feed will now have a title of "Manager Tools Members Cast" to distinguish it from the normal weekly feed.

David/MisterB, I'd appreciate it if you would take a look and let me know if it's what you expected.

thanks!

Folks-

I love it when problems get solved and I'm not involved!

And on a problem like this, my involvement could have only hindered things!

Mike,

It worked perfectly. Thank you, it is truly appreciated.

iTunes users:

The change to the pod cast name also changes the album name. So if you have a play list that uses the album name, change the condition from is to contains and you will be fine.
