Greetings Everyone,

Steve & I realized that today's MeetUp was probably too short of notice for many. We've scheduled another MeetUp for November 28th. We've asked Mike to join us and that date works for him and the two of us, so we want to invite the rest of you in the area to join us.

We'll work on a location. It will probably be on the north side of D.C./south side of Metro Baltimore. Todays MeetUp was scheduled for the Silver Spring, MD area.

We believe that having Mike with us will add great value to the evening. I don't know about you, but my approach to management and leadership in my organization has been transformed by what these guys have been teaching us through the podcasts! So this should be a great evening.

Let us know if you can make it.

Thanks,

Dave

It has been a busy time for me -- on the road three out of four weeks, but now want to focus in on our meet-up only 13 days away. Is anyone else going to attend? I'm really looking forward to it. I think I will be personally touching base with some of you in the next couple of days and have a location up soon.

Don't forget the 28th!

I may be in DC that day.

Will the meeting still be North / Baltimore? Can you provide anymore details? I'll likely be south of DC, but would be more than willing to drive to participate in this.

Hey Greg,

We were thinking in the Silver Spring area, but could move it a little further south. Let me get back to you. I'll try to post something over the weekend or the first of next week.

Thanks for the interest. I'm EXCITED!

I will definitely be in DC that day; and downtown.. Not south like I thought.

Silver Spring is reasonable. Is there a Metro train that runs that far in the evenings?

I'm excited as well. It will be great to put some faces with names.

Dave and Greg,

I'm onboard.

Yes, Metro rails run that way in the evening. Expect a bit of a rush hour type experience around dinnertime.

Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Hi Everyone,

Okay, here's the scoop. Let's meet at Mamma Lucia's. I've listed the information below. It's really close to the Silver Spring, MD Metro stop for those travelling that way. I'm thinking meeting @ 7:00 p.m.? If that's too late or too early let us know. I'm not familiar with restaurants in that part of Silver Spring, but wanted to stay close to a Metro stop. If someone has a better location, I'm not married to this one. I'm looking forward to the 28th.

Thanks,

Dave

I'm going to try really hard to get to this.

I've been told that I might be working until midnight while I'm in DC (Nothing like 12 hours days in a server room) :?

But if I can get away for awhile Wednesday night, I'll be there.

Thanks Greg, hopefully you'll be able to make it!

Still not too late for any one else to join us this evening.

We'll give you all a report on what we covered later.

Dave

Sorry I didn't make it. My team and I didn't finish up until about 8:00 last night.

Maybe next time.

Hey Greg,

We did miss you but had an awesome time. I'm going to post a summary of what we talked about in the next couple of days. It reminds me of what a treasure Manager Tools is to many of us.

Hope your work continues strong and you make it back to Pittsburgh this weekend.

Summary of the Meet-up:

We really discussed three areas related to Manager Tools so I'll cover them in that manner.

First, we shared what podcasts had helped us the most in our work. Those that were shared included the three on how to relate to your admin, networking, one-on-ones, how to resign and the recent topic of calendaring. We talked about a lot more than these, but that's what sticks out in my mind.

Second, we talked about the differences in personality and style between Mike & Mark and what each brings in unique ways to Manager Tools. We conluded they were a great team and our managerial and leadership skills have been changed for the better because of what they have taught us through the podcasts and the conferences (Steve attended the first one here in the D.C. area).

Third, we speculated about what future podcasts would be aired. We read between the lines in past podcasts and came up with a short list, but I can't remember what there were at the moment.

Fourth (I remembered something else), was an exchange about how we get the most out of the discussion forums. We talked about who we exchange ideas with the most and what topics and areas we look at the most.

It was a great evening and I hope more of can gather next time and share ideas. Maybe we'll talk about getting together again in six months or so.

So, that's the short and long of this meet-up.

Best Regards,

Dave

Dave,

Thanks for putting this together.

Along with the items you mentioned, I also enjoyed learning about the other leadership related resources you were using. The semi-annual theme based approach and the Willow Creek leadership resources both sounded interesting and worth investigating. (I hope Horstman's not reading this because that last sentence was horrible).

Do you have links to some web pages that provide more details in these areas?

Thanks,
Steve

I read everything, even when watching the Army Navy game, apparently our 6th straight loss to the Squids... a sad day for Army football.

;-)

I'm really a Cuse fan so not into the Army/Navy thing, but living in Maryland now, I guess I should cheer for Navy! Sorry Mark.

The one website Steve asked about was www.willowcreek.com. If you go to that website and click on conferences or leadership it will take you to the Leadership Summit information. Although this is a Church Leadership Summit, the context is great for managers and leaders in the marketplace. So a couple of us have lobbied Willow to have Mike & Mark as speakers. Speakers in the past have included Colin Powell, Bono, Marcus Buckingham, Patrick Lencioni, Daniel Goleman, and others. So, it would fit what Manager-Tools is all about.

Several of us will keep lobbying Willow till we see Mike & Mark on the speaker's platform.

Blessings,

Dave
