Dear Mike & Mark,

I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate the advice you have given through Manager Tools.

4 years ago I was thrust into the role of General Manager & shareholder in my family's company - a postion in which I unfortunately have no training whatsoever (I don't think a Biology major counts). Admittedly I have struggled my way through and done reasonably okay (but with my fair share of blunders), however I wish that I had come across your podcasts earlier in my newfound career. I also unfortunately haven't event been able to learn from my own manager, because being a business owner, I don't have one!

I am at a point where I am desperately needing to be able to delegate tasks and responsibilities to my employees so I can take up the old adage - "work on my business, not in my business" and help it grow.

Along with that, there's also the daily and ongoing headaches of people management! Wouldn't business management be easy if you didn't have to deal with people... 

There have been so many times where I have seen the end point that we need to get to, however been unsure how to get there and afraid to take action in case it makes things worse. Your practical advice, and the dos and (especially) the dont's of so many aspects of management is a great comfort.

I am just trying to hold myself back from trying to implement it all at once! But I at least started my one-on-one's last week and I am pleased to say it went well.

So, thanks again and keep up the sage advice!
