Hey Janet,

Thanks for responding. New to management and went to the DC conference and WOW these guys are good. Just wondering if you have had any luck with the MT O3's in the health care setting? Promise not to dog you with a million questions just kind of wondering.

Hi John,

I am in public health, right now I am doing 3 jobs, the interim director and both supervisor positions out of 2 offices 30 miles apart (traveling between both offices every day). I had just started listening to the podcasts when I took on the second supervisor job to fill a vacancy. My biggest concern was that I have a fairly young staff and knew that they were going to feel cheated for time with me because I was going to be so busy. THAT'S when I decided that I would implement the O3s. I cannot do them weekly right now, so I do them every 2 weeks. They have been very well received. I used the info on the tools site (they have templates for letters to staff to tell them what these are). I have found that they reduce the stopping in for questions, also I usually run quarterly case report conferences, and these now are just "old news". I hear what I need to in their O3s. I have had to remind some staff that they need to keep these on their schedule. It doesn't take much feedback because they are good people that do not like the thought of their boss sitting in her office waiting on them.

My nurses are out doing home visits, clinics, coalitions, etc. It couldn't have come at a more difficult time to implement these in my daily schedule. Mark and Mike helped me see that this would eventually be a time-saver. I have 2 new supervisors coming on board now and I will transition them into doing these meetings soon as they are oriented. If you are working in health care you have a lot of "s" and "c" individuals in your staff. They really do need the opportunity to see you one and one. I highly recommend it! The boards have lots of information about roadblocks. You will hit some!

I encourage you to commit to them. Don't try them and pull back, I think that will hurt your credibility. I'm not an expert, just an average Jane. Also look at the cast on starting out as a new manager. No time to link to it, let me know if you can't find it and I will look it up.

Question #1 down....only 999,999 to go!

Greetings everyone,

Glad to see we are not alone - I would also like to recommend joining Linkedin.com as a resource for nurse managers as well,  t's free and Mike and Mark have endorsed it in the podcasts.

Look me up and feel free to add me as your first contact or another. My profile is www.linkedin.com/in/toddmgrivetti.

There are a couple great groups set up, one which I manage - New Nurse Managers.

I have been here on MT for over 3 years and thoroughly enjoy the discussions and podcasts. Both Mike and Mark are tremendous and knowledgeable and provide a solid and succinct resource to all managers.
