I work for an affluent community's police department that has over 100 officers. By PD standards, and compared to the average, this is fairly large. Our executive staff consists of a Chief, Assistant Chief, and three Captains, of which I am a captain. I'm nearing the end of my probationary period. Unfortunately, the department does not provide formal performance evaluations for members of the executive staff.
I'd like to receive formal feedback on my performance as ascending beyond my rank is by appointment and I would like written documentation of my performance.
Is this normal for other organizations? Are executives not provided this type of feedback?
