I have been asked recently to provide a CV instead of a resume. Not that I don't want to recreate the wheel, but is there that much difference?

Resume vs. CV
To my knowledge:
resume = what Americans call a CV
CV = curriculum vitae (latin: story of life) is what us Brits call a resume
If there's another difference someone please enlighten me :)
Resume vs. CV
In America - a resume is usually 1 page.
A CV is usually for those in academia, and can run many pages. It often includes a listing of every article published, every paper presented, etc.

Resume vs. CV
WVH is right.
My recommendation is to give them a resume - one page. If they want more, they'll ask.
(Some ask for CVs thinking it's cool sounding).
