My employer will be right-sizing within the next few weeks.  They've asked all upper level managers to provide input AND if any of us are interested in part-time employment (along with a plan to accommodate the work).

My current position is likely safe; I'm a long time, high performing employee who is just burning out...6th restructure in 5 years...

A package would give breathing room, but I'm no spring chicken anymore either :)  What are thoughts out there on volunteering to be released?

Without giving the impression that you are "done" and want out?  I would approach it more softly.  Ask your boss more details in a one on one setting focusing on the whole organization, such as "we will be offering to give folks the option to take a package to leave?"

I would not talk about yourself going part time or leaving unless you are sure you want to go down that path.  If you raise the idea for yourself and decide to stay, I think you are creating baggage for yourself in your bosses eye.

Hope that helps,

Mike

Thanks Mike.  I've run through a wide variety of scenarios in my mind on this.  And, IF I do approach my boss, it will be quite softly.  I'm not interested in part-time, but would be open to simply departing cleanly.  One of the challenges is that my boss could be on the 'block' as well - no one, outside of the CEO, is immune and the leaders in the entire organization are really feeling it. That's likely contributing to why I'm feeling "done like dinner" :)

I appreciate your feedback.
