I’ve finished my first set of O3’s and feel a lot better!! It felt like everything was just waiting for me to start so it could either go wrong or interrupt.

The first guy was convinced he was in trouble and was very defensive. It became clear he had not read my email so the meeting was spent reassuring him. The next one should be better though and he got a small SMART objective to complete.

The second guy was quite relaxed but we were plagued by interruptions. The phone rang (I let it ring), someone came in to the office (I asked them to come back in 30 mins), there was a minor production alarm (I told him to get someone else to see to it). We got through quite well in the end.

I came in at 4 this morning to see my night guy, he started by telling me he had no interest in sharing his personal life, but otherwise it was a good meeting and he got a small SMART objective as well. The last guy spent 20 minutes telling me about his fishing and the fact he and his partner were trying for another baby (she wants a girl!)

I messed up a bit in prep as I missed the fact that one guy is on holiday for the next meeting and another will be on his week off but that’s a learning point for me.

Overall I think I got a bit better by the end of the fourth meeting which is encouraging.

All I can say is you've got nowhere to go but up! After a start like that, how can things not get better? :)

Congratulations on sticking it out through a rough start! O3's are worth it.

Coming in at 4 in the morning sends a strong message- nice job!

Excellent messages to send to your direct, well done. It sounds like a great start, you have every right to feel psyched about this.

When you come in at 4, when you ignore interruptions, when you focus on them rather than them answering your issues...

YOU ROCK.

Well done.
