Hi, everyone.

I'm an accountant; a profession with very little gray area.

We are in the middle of transition from one city to another. My boss is perfectly happy with how i'm doing; the other city is not. She's seeing the questions and frustrations I am having with the folks that do not have accounting education. Most journal entries are submitted 1) wrong or 2) late.

This is part of the reason my company is hiring 1000 new people. :)

My boss is happy with how i'm doing and the questions I go to with her are "good questions" (they have solutions, just need her expertise with how the company works).

I have taken the liberty of printing off all the requisite CYA papers (phone logs, emails, etc).

I'm doing the absolute best I can; we're talking a small percentage of work that's in question. I'm just really frustrated right now.

But was there a question in your post?

Seems reasonable to need to get something off your chest now and then; perhaps others who've been in a similar situation might be willing to commiserate and make the OP feel less alone...

I'm struggling to understand how I can fix perception when i'm busting my tail to deliver results. My boss's here see it and have passed along everything i'm doing to the remote location.

The local boss has said, "It's ok, you've been here six months. You're confidence will grow." I know she's right, and i'm getting better. This is where I need the cognitive beharvioral therapy the doctor suggested.

I have a significant anxiety disorder. I have been taking medicine for three years, and i'm not sure if it's working any more. I'm struggling, frustrated, and afraid of what's going to happen.

I suspect my trainees feel this way often.

In my office - it takes a year for that confidence to set in.

There is so much nuance and institutional tradition and knowledge to pass along.

Anxiety is normal and expected.

Take comfort in the fact that your boss says that you are doing OK.

Sure, work with your doctor - perhaps you do need a little tweaking of your meds, or maybe not.

Other than that just keep the communication lines open with the boss.

Perhaps you can ask you boss for a few benchmarks that you can see.

If the Boss says you are doing well - ask kindly if the boss can explain how he/she are measuring your progress. How do they come to that conclusion.

If you are concerned about how complaints will affect you evaluation ? -- then merely ask the boss how complaints are factored into your evaluation.

Try to be as calm and - company focused as you can when you ask.  It's all about being effective for the organization.

Try not to use the word's worried - or anxious.   Use - concerned and measured results.

Once the boss answers you _ whatever the answer is ------ breath in - breath out - move on...  hang on...

You will be OK.

Hi JMHASSELL21:

I am so sorry to hear about your struggles with anxiety.  My suggestion, after reading your 2 posts, is to seek the help of the doctor you have seen before or another qualified medical professional as soon as possible.  This is especially important since you indicate you're unsure if your current medicine is helping.

I wish you the very best and strongly urge you to seek professional medical help as soon as possible.

My manager stopped me before I went home today.

She talked with her manager about me today. I'm beating myself up and allowing the worst case scenario to dominate my thought process.

They said i'm doing fine and there aren't any complaints from anywhere. The only real criticism was to not let my insecurity come out at work (i've been a mess).

As my father put it, "Go with who signs your check". In this case, it's a happy ending.
