My GM called me today telling me he has heard rumors that I am quiting and wants me to change my job position, because I am known as the brand of this company in the location that I work.

A while back for numerous reasons, I made the decision to change jobs due to the high turnover, the lack of respect from my direct manager, and also because of the way they treat their employees, at all levels. I have declined several offers to wait for a better opportunity.

About a year ago I applied for a job, and the manager of that company forwarded my resume and cover letter to my GM.

What am I obliagted to tell my boss. They don't like getting feedback, they like people to be positive and bubbly all the time, and they don't look for ways to improve the company morale.

I have over 6 months finances in the bank and a solid network. I just want to hold onto my title till I can find a really good opportunity.

Thanks MT'ers for your guidance and support.

Follow the podcasts. Give your boss six weeks of notice after you have completed transition activities and have fully accepted an offer elsewhere. Provide your boss with written documentation of where all of the bodies are buried, who your contacts are, and anything else the person who follows you might need.

Do not give this kind of boss feedback. Your obligation is not to strike a blow for justice. If you want to change the face of management, you do so by becoming a manager and managing people well yourself. Get promoted. Since you are leaving, just let things be, compliment their awesome company, and thank them for all you have learned there. Buy them chocolates, and toast their good health. Leave on good terms

Sounds like a good plan.
