I'm a new manager and I'm preparing my annual self-review. Unfortunately, I had to terminate a poor performer earlier this year. I'm wondering whether or how I should mention it. I think I handled it fairly well, and I did learn from it. I was planning to talk about how I've grown as a manager, but listing firing someone as an accomplishment sounds crude even if I'm focusing what I learned. Any thoughts on how/if I should mention this?

Thanks.

Leave it off unless there are extreme and public documented failures that he created that his firing stopped. 1 in 100 chance that's so.

Remember - all firings are failures. Maybe the right thing to do, but nonetheless, a failure.
