When do you ask people to join your network? 

I usually ask people who I have known a while either currently or colleagues and friends I knew, but may have lost contact with.  I have not yet started asking people who I have just met, even if they people I want to begin a business relationship with.  What is everyone else doing? 

For a scenario:  You are in a kickoff or maybe pre-bid meeting with a client team that you will be working with or hope to be working with.  You find them on linked(in).  Do you invite them now, or wait until after you have been working together a bit?

For me, I generally wait to either accept or extend an invitation until there is an established relationship and personal contact.
