 Hi,

I'm a long time follower of Manager Tools. I used to think that I could solve everything and anything ... until now when my optimism seems to have finally met its nemesis. I'm part of big corporation working on a very large new product development project. Obviously resources are not unlimited. Every little step ends up being a battle with the product development organization. I've been sifting through various technical papers and books lately ... but most of these just tend to touch the surface with basic concepts like partnership, process efficiency, stronger integration, customer focus, building talent pipeline etc. without going into the softer side of motivating folks (on whom you don't have direct power) to get things done. Do you have any suggestions for some reference material in this area? (A book, Mark/Mike's podcast, forum discussion, papers, thoughts etc.)

Thanks!

Relationships, it's all about relationships. Back before I discovered manager tools, I would tell my boss at the time I was going to "go make friends" with the department he could not get any traction with. I did not really know what I was doing, but "making friends" seemed to work pretty well at the time. Turns out, it's what MT calls building relationships... I have not checked out the Effective Relationship Series yet, but you might want to start there.
