My phone rang just at the end of a one-on-one... my DR said, "We're done aren't we? Go ahead and get it." So I did, and it was my sister letting me know our dad died unexpected last night.

I have 3 more O3s today.. do I hafta?

Don't know when the funeral is yet, will take a plane ticket to get there.

In a fog...

Oh Terri, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Please accept my condolences.

As for the O3's: No, you don't. At best, you'll be distracted.

This is one of those times where it gets to be all about you. Do what you need to with your family. Work will still be there when you get back

Terri,

I'm sorry for your loss.

I think if you explained to your directs and left for the day, your directs would forgive you. It's certainly what they would expect in your position.

I hope the coming days are smooth and as easy as they can be for you.

My sincere condolences Terri. I can only imagine how you feel. I haven't lost a parent, but when I do I know I will be crushed.

O3s, Feedback, coaching. I'm sure you have already established a relationship with your directs. This is one of those times when that relationship is probably going to work for you. Be honest with them. This is a devastating time and they know it. They will be there for you; let them.

You focus on your family now. That's much more important than work.

Terri,

My sincerest condolences. I have lost my father and know how terrible a blow it is. You don't hafta. You may cry. You may look like hell. You may tell your team; they will understand.

You have my number. Please call if there is anything I can do to help - even if that is just listen.

I'm very sorry to hear about your loss.

I'm sure your directs will understand you missing these O3s, as I'm sure that you would be understanding of your directs or boss if they had suffered a similar loss. Just because you're a manager doesn't mean you're not human too.

Hi T

I also offer my condolences. You don't HAVE to do anything. May your grieving be short and your positive memories last forever.

Terri,

I am extremely sorry to hear your sad news. My Dad passed away unexpectedly only few weeks ago and your news has brought fresh tears to my eyes.

I DO know what you're going through and my heartfelt condolences to you and your family.

Take the time you need to be with your family. Letting your team know will allow them to support you as well. You might be surprised how well they rally!

Godspeed,

Peter

Terri, our thoughts are with you and your family. Take time to grieve and keep memories alive.

I chose to block out memory to reduce the pain and lost a lot of the good stuff. Every day think of something your father did that made you smile or laugh.

Thanks everybody.

Hubby & I are in Washington (near Seattle) now, staying at my brother's place. (My first experience with Firefox... but I probably wouldn't have internet at all at a hotel! since I don't have a laptop)

Your thoughts & sympathies mean a lot. I appreciate it.

Terri-

My sincere condolences. Losing a parent is tough. I hope you are getting the opportunity to take time to grieve, to remember his life with joy and to take care of yourself.

I also had an unexpected phone call at work one day a few years ago telling me my father had passed away the night before. Work really has to take the back seat then. I hope to always be as thoughtful as my boss was that day -- he assured me all would be taken care of (it was) and sent me home immediately.

Regards,
Lou
