I like the notion of the SEER but the example you gave on the podcast was a postive one. How do you say something negative? I also am confused by the "don't give the story" (ie last March you did X)? How do you provide the objective data without telling the story. HELP!

I know I am behind in listening to the podcasts and in my evals... I just found your site and think it is great. I am writing the cliff notes and planning on educating my staff on how to better write evals as soon as I learn it!

Thanks.

I want to help, but I'm sorry, I don't understand the question.

I used the SEER writing style in this past cycle when writing reviews for my directs. At my place of work, formal personnel reviews are FIRST viewed by HR and signed by the evaluator's direct supervisor before delivering the performance review.

SEER is powerful. The comments from HR and my boss were incredibly positive. They were both very impressed with the quality, thoroughness, and succinct nature of the reviews. SEER contributed to an outstanding review of my performance for the past year.

After the first few reviews, SEER made writing the following reviews that much easier. It can become a habit.

SEER is just one of the things I have learned from MT in 10 months of listening, and re-listening, to the podcasts. Mark and Mike...I have the two of you to thank.

To add to Tom's point, I've used the SEER method in writing my self evaluations and each time, my manager's review has used almost the exact same summaries and examples of my performance.

When you perform and find a succinct way to recount that performance, it's powerful!

I need to do this... which podcast are you referring to?

Thanks!

I believe it's the one about writing effective performance reviews.

With respect to self evaluations. My boss commented that the writing (when employing SEER) was excellent and asked if he wrote or did I write it. I still chuckle a bit about that one.

Powerful.
