I recently listened to podcast regarding "Creating and maintaining a network". I looked after Mike and Mark in Linkedin and they are both registered. One has 7 connections and the other 14. Either they are not walking the talk or they rely on outlook and not these fancy networks on the web. What is the general feeling towards these Linkedins ?

Generally; my feeling is that LinkedIn isn't what networking is about. The existence or absence of a LinkedIn account doesn't have a thing to do with your network. I have a LinkedIn account with one link. This isn't my cup of tea.

But, if that's what you want to do, go for it. I will offer a warning that if you're linking to people who aren't commited to LinkedIn, you could find yourself with a lot of outdated contact information just when you want it most.

Thanks Flynn for the great feedback. I really never thought of the outdating of info (maybe because I care about it and update it myself), I guess that happens if you record the contact on your phone or on outlook or on a piece of paper. I recently changed my job, and on the next day i was beeing told by my contacts to update it. I also found myself in the situation where it was actually useful to me when trying to reach others... It seems that beeing contacted via linkedin makes the contact itself more trustworthy for some reason. Not beeing the last word on networking is this a manager tool anyhow ?

It's a good question! I'm not sure I understand your title ("provocative'?), but basically I can see where you might get the wrong idea. Please rest assured I'm walking the talk.

There's been another thread about LinkedIn... and Mike's comments therein echo mine. Take a look, and if Mike's comment doesn't clear things up, let us know and we'll try again.

Thanks for posting!

Well, I read it and it sure answered my question. Couldn't be more clear.
I guess the general feeling is not good about it, considering all the other replyes to the same post agreeing with Mike. There is although a lot of "experience" instead of "judgement" in the posts...people had bad experiences with it. My network is filled with my friends, people I know, trust and care about. Not lazy people who just want to profit from me. I do the same with them. But my first idea was of doing sort of a poll and the majority has spoken. And I am no raider.
